We are delighted to be welcoming guests back to The Bell having been forced to close for nearly 11 months, due to extensive flooding back in October 2019 and then again in February, this year. The Covid crisis then delayed our opening but here we are.
As you may imagine, such was the destruction, we have had to make major repairs and changes to The Bell, all of which we think retain its longheld reputation for having a stylish and friendly atmosphere. We now have a ceramic tiled, herringbone-style floor which will survive if we, the gods forbid, ever have another flood. We still have our oak beams, open fires (when required), big comfy sofas and contemporary but classic furniture, all of which we think creates an air of easy relaxation.
We’ve completely redesigned the restaurant and the bars which we think now work better for our customers, some of whom have been most complimentary already. The garden terrace has been enlarged and we now have a covered area where it is perfect to sit out and socially distance safely.
Upstairs, even though our 11 individually-designed bedrooms escaped the effects of the floods, we have redecorated and put in some new carpets and curtains. All the lovely luxuries still include crisp cotton sheets, duvets, warm blankets, fluffy towels, tea/coffee-making facilities and homemade biscuits and the distinctive British perfumier Noble Isle’s aromatic toiletries in the bathrooms.
For those who haven’t travelled here yet, The Bell at Skenfrith is a former 17th century coaching inn, on the banks of the river Monnow, in the breathtakingly beautiful county of Monmouthshire, Wales and one of the UK’s most renowned independent boutique hotels.
The Bell has won numerous awards for its restaurant and wine list and is also known for being a very special wedding venue (in normal times). We have our own spacious marquee which can be tailored to your specific requirements. If you are planning an anniversary celebration, a romantic escape or want to try some country pursuits then The Bell is the place. We have created six circular walks, to and from The Bell, each with a map detailing footpaths and drawings of points of interest around this beautiful part of Wales and, of course, the river Monnow flowing just beside us.
