PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO WALES' LOCKDOWN, OUR RESTAURANT AND BAR WILL BE CLOSED  FROM FRIDAY, 23RD OCTOBER TO  MONDAY, 9TH NOVEMBER.  HOWEVER, WE SHALL STILL BE TAKING BOOKINGS FOR AFTER 9TH NOVEMBER.

 

Following the most recent COVID-19 Government directives, and for the safety of everyone, we are asked to ensure that all our guests and customers wear a face mask/covering in and around The Bell, unless seated at a table or in your guestroom.                                                                                                       

We are unable to take bookings for more than 6 people at a table. A booking for 6 people should comprise members of your household or extended household (bubble), if you have formed one.  The amount does not include any children under age 11.  It is the law now to stop serving alcohol completely from 10pm and all non-residents must leave the premises before 10.20pm

We are also asking guests and visitors to be aware that we are now accepting bookings on a Reservations Only basis. We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause, especially for any impromptu visitors, and ask for your understanding and patience in what are unprecedented times.

 

About us - Our restaurant has won many awards for its food. Recently, we were very proud to have won the ‘Best Place to Eat – Pub’ in the Wales National Tourism Awards, as voted by the public.  

Our Head Chef Joseph Colman, who hails from Tenby in Wales, changes his menus regularly.  The produce is seasonal and sourced locally, with some from our own kitchen garden. Special dietary requirements can usually be met but we ask that you let us know of these in advance.  We have a nutritious Children’s menu – see menus page. We regret that under 8s are not allowed in the restaurant after 7pm in the evenings but we will happily organise supper for them from 6pm to 6.30pm.

In good weather, guests may eat on the garden terrace or order a picnic basket and rug and sit up in the orchard which has amazing views over the Monnow river below.

We are open for breakfast, bar snacks, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.  Lunch is from 12pm to 2.30pm Monday to Saturday and we are open for drinks all day.   On Sundays, we serve a traditional lunch from 12pm until 4pm (or until we run out of food!) and dinner from 6pm to 8pm so that our guests have the flexibility to eat before or after whatever plans they might have for the day.

Getting Here – we are about 15 minutes from Monmouth, 20 minutes from Abergavenny, 25 minutes from Hereford, 40 minutes from Bristol, just over an hour from Birmingham and three hours from London (traffic allowing).

The Dog and Boot Bar

The Dog and Boot Bar is a great hit with walkers and their four-legged friends, especially those who are sporting a little bit more muck on their shoes or paws than usual.  The atmosphere is thoroughly relaxed and we offer a special Bar Snack menu, as well as complimentary biscuits for dogs (only)!

The Pooch Parlour is in the rear garden. There is a shower and metal bath to clean  muddy animals.. Dog towels are available from reception.
