Situated in the beautiful county of Monmouthshire, The Bell at Skenfrith, a former 17th century Welsh coaching inn and one of Wales’s most renowned boutique hotels, was completely restored in 2001. In 2015, under the new ownership of Sarah Hudson and Richard Ireton, the hotel was updated throughout. Due to the floods of two years ago, The Bell has now been extensively restored downstairs!
Carefully and thoughtfully decorated, the oak beams and antique furniture, coupled with an abundance of fresh flowers and green plants, contemporary comfy sofas and chairs, give The Bell its relaxing and easy atmosphere.
The hotel has eleven, individually designed bedrooms, all with bathrooms en suite and filled with the British perfumier Noble Isle's aromatic toiletries. Beetroot grown in the hotel's kitchen garden is used for its Fireside collection.
The bars and restaurant have all been redesigned and now have a much more light, airy and spacious feel. The pretty garden terrace is usually open from spring to early autumn. We do not reserve tables outside but guests, upon their arrival, are welcome to enquire about available tables.
On the banks of the river Monnow, The Bell at Skenfrith is on the outskirts of the tiny Welsh village of Skenfrith. With an award-winning restaurant and wine list, it is the perfect place to get away from it all for a romantic break, a special occasion, intimate weddings (the hotel's marquee can be tailored to your requirements), anniversaries/celebrations or to discover a variety of country pursuits.
The county of Monmouthshire is renowned for its miles of country walks and The Bell has created six of its own circular walks which guide the walker in and around the Skenfrith area, at times crossing the border into England and back - no passport required! The Skenfrith Sleuth is an extremely popular Children’s Walk where they can search for clues about the history of Skenfrith Castle – one of the famous Marches castles - the medieval church of St. Bridget and Skenfrith village, all just across the road from The Bell. This is an ideal activity for half-term or holidays. Budding astronomers and galaxy watchers should know that, on a clear night our Skenfrith Sky is never diminished by orange light!
Whatever your reason for visiting, The Bell’s staff will always welcome you and help to make your visit a memorable one. Please note there is free wifi but mobile signals can be a bit erratic!

One thing we are not short of at The Bell at Skenfrith is outside space. We are surrounded by the most beautiful and unspoiled Welsh countryside. We have a large garden with a terrace for al fresco dining, a working kitchen garden with fresh herbs, vegetables and fruit. We have a special area for our own marquee which is available for weddings and special occasions.
Beyond the garden, across the footpath is our meadow garden where you can enjoy the beautiful views down over the river Monnow.
